June 2nd, 2001, Seniors Zone II Report Sunset Ranch Golf & Country Club
The Sunset Ranch Golf & Country Club in Kelowna hosted the 2001 Senior Men's Open on Friday June 1st. This has to be
the best organized tournament that we Seniors have played in to date. The friendly greeting from the volunteers at the
registration desk to the hot coffee and muffins made the start of the day most enjoyable. The power carts were organized in
such a manner that there was no confusion in finding your designated cart as each was labeled with a name tag and starting
hole number etc. a great way to start a tournament.
One of the nice gestures from the organizing committee was a brochure outlining the day's programme....it included
a SLOW PLAY RULES sheet that laid down the ground rules before the start of play.... I have taken the liberty of
reproducing their notice and would suggest that other courses could take a page from this memo.
"Everyone's co-operation is required to reach our goal of a maximum of 4 & 1/4 hours of fun golf !.. The "Rules of Golf"
require a player to play without delay at all times (Rule 6.7)...A group will be deemed "Out of Position" and liable to a warning
and subsequent penalty, when starting a hole, there is a clear hole ahead or the elapsed time per hole averages more than
15 minutes.
Our Marshals will monitor the pace and will advise who is "Out of Position". A warning will follow if the pace of play does not
speed up sufficiently. Following the warning, if the slow play continues, the player or players causing the slow play will be
advised and subject to a One Stroke Penalty . The penalty will be administered by the Tournament Committee Chairman
and will be based upon the recommendations provided by the Marshall and the Tournament Rules Committee.
-REMEMBER- our Marshals, Club Staff and Tournament Committee Members are present to provide an enjoyable golf
experience for all participants. PLEASE CO-OPERATE ! "
There is little room for doubt or excuse from any one in not knowing the ground rules before the start of the game.
Enough said.....here are the results....
