September 21st, 2001, Seniors Zone II Report
Inkameep Canyon Desert Golf Course

The 12th Hole, par 3, from the back tee's a 50 foot drop in elevation 0n September the 21st the Senior Men's Club held their first Seniors Open at the new Inkameep Canyon Desert Golf Course. This is the old Cherry Grove course....Completely renovated and increased to 18 beautiful and challenging golf holes....For those of you that have not played this course yet.... the score card contains tips that will help you enjoy your round.

The score card also has this information....The Inkameep Canyon is a desert golf course. All but five holes have been cut out of raw desert. Please be aware that the local desert environment may contain rattlesnakes and cacti. The cacti lie low on the ground and have very long sharp spines. it is recommended that you avoid leaving the cut portion of the golf course unless absolutely necessary. The cut portion plants are very sensitive so please do not step on sage or greasewood.

This course design is part desert, part links. Desert golf requires you to carefully place your tee shot. Length off the tee is not necessary on most holes. The further you hit the ball the narrower the fairways get. It is far more important to keep your ball in play. Links golf requires you to take the wind into account. What you lose going into the wind you will gain on the next hole or two when you come back downwind.

The wind warning is true...on the 15th,..(par 5)...(.512 yard hole)....called the "Chief"...I hit , driver, driver, 9 iron and just barley made the front edge of the green.....the next three holes were down wind and very pleasurable to play as the golf shots seemed to carry forever before coming to rest on the fairway...
