May 29th, 2002 - Seniors Zone II Report
Zone II Senior Men's Championship

On the 29th day of May, the Osoyoos Golf & Country Club was the scene for the Zone II Senior Men's Championship. A field of 122 golfers attempted to gain a berth on the 4 man team that would represent this Zone at the Provincial Championship to be held in Creston, August 12th to 14th later this year.

The best players of the day and named to the four man team are : Gary Gelowitz, of the Okanagan Golf Club; Jim Greenlay, with the Kelowna Golf & Country Club; Derek Bennet, from the Osoyoos Golf & Country Club and Mickey Johson with the Penticton Golf Club.

The famous Okanagan weather finally arrived and under pleasant skies and a warm desert wind the rest of the field played out the game with these results:

Garry Gelowitz was the OVERALL LOW GROSS winner with a score of (74)....he was tied with Jim Greenlay (74) and won in a playoff. The OVERALL LOW NET winner was Paul Eisenhut with a score of (64).

Jim Greenlay won the first flight LOW GROSS honor with a (74), followed by Derek Bennet (75), in third place was Barry Simmonds (76). In the LOW NET section, first place went to Mickey Johnson (68), second place went to Bob Fortune (69), third was Brent Redding (71).

Second flight LOW GROSS winner was Tom Martin (77), in second place was Don Bennet (81), followed by Art Streight (82). Todd Phillips (68) won the LOW NET portion, followed by Nick Kalyk (72) and Tony Ritchie at (72).

Bob Stocks won the third flight LOW GROSS with a (79). Peter Herridge (84) was second and in third place Doug Steinke (85). John Wood took first place in the LOW NET frame (66), second was Gerald Langton (70) followed by Kirk Dawson (72).

Fourth flight LOW GROSS winner was Claude Bergman (85), followed by Herb Williams (89), Gilles Boudreau was third with a (91). LOW NET winner was Terry Leith (71), second place went to Lorne Erickson (71), and followed by Walt Laskowski (73).
