BC PGA AND WCJGT JOIN FORCES

The BC PGA is pleased to announce a new partnership with the Western Canada Junior Golf Tour. The two organizations have joined forces to create a unique provincial junior golf championship for boys and girls of all ages, which will debut in July of 2002. The Western Canada BC PGA Junior Championship, presented by Mazda, will take place July 2nd through the 4th at the Northview Golf & Country Club in Surrey.

This tournament will be unique in showcasing top-level junior competition in six age groups, and juniors placing well in this event will benefit from a host of opportunities, including but not limited to scholarships and recognition by the British Columbia PGA. Mazda has come on as the presenting sponsor, with Roots Golf and Alcan Inc. being supporting sponsors of the Championship.

The BC PGA is proud to partner with the Western Canada Junior Golf Tour on this exciting new event. Combining the forces of our two Associations will strongly benefit junior golf development in British Columbia, and provide aspiring juniors with a competitive three-day event to test their skills against the best in the province. The first 36-holes of the Championship will be played on Northview's Canal Course, followed by a cut, with the leaders competing for the Championship in the final round, to be played on Northview's Ridge Course, home of the PGA Tour's Air Canada Championship.

"We are very much looking forward to being involved in the 2002 Western Canada BC PGA Junior Golf Championship, and anticipate a competitive and exciting tournament at Northview Golf & Country Club" added BC PGA Captain Ward Stouffer. "The BC PGA is committed to the development of junior golfers in this province, and looks forward to working with the WCJGT, a leader in providing competitive junior golf experiences to boys and girls of all ages."

"Mazda Canada is proud to partner with the Western Canada Junior Golf Tour and the Canadian Professional Golfers' Associations of British Columbia, Alberta and Saskatchewan," says Regional Manager Dennis Andrews. "As Presenting Sponsor of the series we are looking forward to tournaments of outstanding caliber. Mazda Canada is extremely pleased to be involved with such professional sports organizations which are supporting young people in a game they will benefit from throughout their lives."

The WCJGT, presented by Boston Pizza, has proven itself to be the fastest growing junior tour in Canada and is run by BC PGA members with 21 events from Point Roberts, WA, to Regina, SK, and of course with several tournaments taking place across British Columbia.
