If you are planning a trip to Cabo San Lucas or San Jose Del Cabo the Mayan Golf Club is the perfect start to your golf outings. Even though it is 9 holes, the cost is reasonable compared to others that are almost $200. For $40 US after 3:00pm it is not a tough layout, but great to get the golf swing in motion and get a feel for the Bermuda grass. The "rough" and how the greens can play are very differently than north of the 49th!
The Mayan has several condo developments going up with entry level 1 bedroom condo's starting at $79K U.S. - this is a bargain as Cabo and San Jose are undergoing phenomenal construction and growth. With hurricanes creating Florida as an undesirable holiday spot, Cabo and the "East Cape" may just become the New Mexican Rivera and preferred destination for American and Canadian travelers and retirees.
Mayan Golf Club - Hole #5 The Mayan Golf Club was formally known as the Campestre San Jose del Cabo - the 1st in San Jose, built in 1986 and open for play in 1988 by the FONATUR, the Mexican government agency in charge of creating MEGA projects.
Youth Welcome at the Mayan. Noteable holes - Number 3 is a reachable par 5, a well executed drive with a slight draw and role you will achieve the distance needed to be viewing the green as the fairway dips downward. A 2nd fairway wood will leave you in excellent position for an easy par or birdie. Hole 6 is a testing par 4. The fair way is guarded by 3 majestic palms, clear these and your approach to the uphill green will set you up for an easy par. The green has its undulations sloping from back to front, best to try and leave your ball below the hole. Club selection is important here.
Mayan Golf Club - Hole #8 In summary, relax and play 2 balls, the course is generally quite and never a problem to just "show up", do not over analyze the greens, trust your instincts and get warmed up for your golf holiday.
