(Our Fourcaddie for the day)

coeur d alene resortBCgolfguide.com's owner Ross Marrington and Fairways and Green's writer Glen Erickson hit the road on a short "fam" tour to The Coeur d'Alene Resort, in Idaho, just 40 minutes east of Spokane Washington.

Our three day road trip was a quick one, leaving at 6:00am on Tuesday Oct 19th. We arrived in plenty of time for our 12:30 t-time at the very popular and City of Spokane owned Indian Canyon Golf Course.  After our game we heading over to the resort for a two night visit and to tee it up with Golf Group Sales Manager Steve Carey. Our Wednesday am game could not have been any better. A cloudless sky, an immaculate course, no wind, and a fourcaddie, to which Glen and I have never experienced. Warming up is an interested venture, hitting semi-floating balls out into the lake, take note your distances hit are not your normal distances.

Please listen into our three audio interviews and subscribe to our outbound golf trip E-list as BCgolfguide.com develops stay and play Coeur d' Alene golf packages for the 2011 season. A special thanks to all the staff for making our trip a very memorable one. Steve Carey for being a gracious host from breakfast thru to our last hole, and not to forget our fourcaddie Will James. Will's knowledge of the course and personable nature made the day a very memorable and enjoyable golf experience. I think everyone that has a golf bucket list should spoil themselves and play the golf course at  The Coeur d' Alene Resort. Enjoy the photo gallery too. In Conversation with Walter Gretzky about the CNIB
Charity Golf Events in Kelowna and Victoria

If there is a “hockey dad” on the planet who knows a little bit about paying the price, it might very well be Walter Gretzky. After spending most of his life, along with his late wife Betty, supporting the dreams of three sons and a daughter, Walter finds himself busy today with activities that help the less fortunate among us to realize their dreams.

The 72-year-old Gretzky has become immersed in charitable work since a brain aneurysm nearly took his life two decades ago. After fully recovering from the ailment, he was introduced to golf as a means to keep active. Since then, he has found ways to combine his love for the game with his caring and giving disposition.

The Kelowna Golf & Country Club will play host to the CNIB Walter Gretzky Charity Classic on Monday, August 9. Gretzky will attend the event and he is hoping Okanagan Valley residents will support the fundraising event. We spoke with him by telephone, shortly after his busy morning among celebrities at the Ford Wayne Gretzky Classic, a Nationwide Tour event in Thornbury, Ontario.

Sign up for Kelowna (Kelowna Golf and Country Club) on August 9th or Victoria (Olympic View Golf Club) August 5th for these two incredible events. These events are more than 1/2 full, do not delay and signup today. Shannon Glenesk- Head Professional of the Vernon Golf and Country Club Kalamalka Rotary Club Charity Golf Tournament

In early June, Glen had an informative audio interview with Shannon Glenesk, Head Professsional of the Vernon Golf and Country Club. The Vernon GC is one of the most established courses with inception dating back to 1913.

Sunday July 11th, all golf times will be sold at $50 per person going straight to charity - the Maternal Child for the Vernon Jubilee Hospital Power of Care Project. Once all members of the club and event sponsors have signed up, and subject to space available, the public would then have an opportunity to play in this event for only $50 complete with tax receipt, and 100% of all green fees for this day will go directly to the charity.

The second day (Monday July 12) of this event will be a Pro-Am with a purse of $10,000 based on a full field of 32 teams. Teams will consist of 1 professional and 3 amateurs. For more information please visit www.vernongolf.com or contact Shannon Glenesk at (250) 542-9126 Ext. 209.

Scott Dawson - General Manager of the Ponderosa Golf Club in Peachland
New Greg Norman Design Underway

There has been plenty of buzz in Peachland over the past couple of years as the Okanagan Valley Golf prepares for the arrival of a Greg Norman-designed golf course.

Located on the grounds that used to accommodate the Ponderosa Golf Course, the new facility to Okanagan golf will bring much more than golf to the region. The community development will include a hotel and as many as 2,000 residential units. There is talk of a hockey rink as well. And don’t forget the vineyards. All totaled, it’s a billion-dollar project

However, it is the golf course that appears destined to be the centerpiece, with the golf crazy locals eager with anticipation.

“One thing I remember Greg Norman telling us is that it isn’t tough to build a really difficult golf course,” said Scott Dawson, the former general manager of the Ponderosa Golf Course. “But, he said, it can be difficult to build a golf course that every one can play and enjoy. That’s what we’re going to do.”

The 7,114-yard, par 72 layout, will also fit in nicely on the west side of Okanagan Lake along with the Shannon Lake Golf Club, Two Eagles Golf Course and the Summerland Golf & Country Club. While the golf course has yet to be named, Dawson says the facility will partner with existing wholesalers and accommodators in the region to continue an Okanagan tradition of promoting golf tourism. And, Dawson confirmed, the concept of environmental stewardship will play a huge role in the construction of the golf course.

We spoke with Dawson at a National Golf Course Owner’s Association meeting near Vernon, BC. He has remained involved with the current project since the closing of the old golf course. The current opportunity has required that he wear a number of hats as the project moves forward in anticipation of a 2011 or 2012 opening. When pressed for a specific opening date, Dawson grinned wryly and did not divulge the information requested.

Miles Mortenson Speaks with Glen on the
last 2 years under the belt at Tobiano

tobiano golf Since its arrival on the golfing landscape near Kamloops, the Tobiano community development has emerged as one of the region's most sought after locales.

The golf course, which is celebrating its third year in 2010, has received wide acclaim, garnering awards from prestigious golf industry publications. The layout was designed by Thomas McBroom and presents a most entertaining challenge. Located just 20 minutes from the city of Kamloops, Tobiano has become an important component in a region that has begun to aggressively promote itself as a stand alone golf destination.

We spoke with Miles Mortenson at the Edmonton Consumer Golf Show about his tenure at Tobiano, some of his personal highlights, and the addition of key personnel in an effort to move the facility forward with proficiency and panache.

Scalar Energy - Peak Performace for Your Game
Listen in on this fascinating Product

golfers scalar braceletThe consumer of golf has spent much of the past 20 years attempting to decipher the techno-babble spewed by an industry that seems insistent on guaranteeing improved results through the creation of innovative equipment. While the marketing is always informative and occasionally entertaining, true game improvement requires much, much more than simply coughing up your dough for the most expensive golf swing gimmicks money can by.

To this end, a Red Deer, Alberta couple has begun the process of creating awareness of how to optimize energy and peak performance through Scalar Energy. For golfers who take seriously physical attributes such as strength, balance and range of motion, knowledge of the benefits of Scalar Energy might very well be a step in the right direction.

We spoke with John Vanden Dungen of Maejohn International at the annual Calgary Consumer Golf Show about Scalar Energy and the line of Fusion Excel products. We would like you to encourage our visitors to visit their site to learn more about Scalar Energy.
Editors Endorsement by Ross Marrington - I have been wearing my bracelet now for nearly 3 weeks, my first game in 3 months resulted in a pleasing round of shooting my handicap. I am a classic text book sceptic, but have to admit, the theory and science behind the products are interesting and should be experienced first hand. While at the Edmonton Golf show CPGA Head Professional Hall Thomlinson from Canoe Creek Golf Course also purchased a bracelet and can say that his knee is feeling better quicker while eearing the product and also says "I have a bit more bounce in me" meaning he is feeling just that much more energetic.

Telus World Skins Game at Bear Mountain - June 2010 - Fred Couples, Mike Weir, Camilo Villegas and 2 unnamed players will play Bear Mountain, always an exciting and fun event to be a spectator at.
