Next is the spreading of gravel and deliveries of washed sand to greens...1
day each green, followed by "probing" and fine-levelling with a Sandpro (not
pictured), and seeding to Bentgrass. To prevent crushing through gravel into the drainage system, the heavily-laden transfer truck's wheels drive only onto its own delivery-washed sand with 5 per cent peat moss, pre-mixed by the supplier. The location of installed irrigation valves and sprinklers is identified by PVC "risers", which will be removed when construction is finished. |

A builder's level is used to site the ledge for the pond's boulders. The pond functions as irrigation reservoir, but golfers will know it as a water hazard! |

Following removal of rocks by hand, a layer of geotextile cloth and sand forms a cushion for the 30ml "EnviroLiner". Weighing 1600 pounds, unfolding the liner required many pairs of hands. |

After filling, the liner was "keyed in", the electrical line to pump backfilled, and rocks finished the ledge. Even with the pond done, No.7 fairway wasn't yet finished, as screened topsoil and gravel/shale took several days to move. In the photo, shadows caused by sun on rain-dampened slopes highlight the fine finishing job uphill of the pond. |

Nearing the 9th week of construction, a tractor-drawn Viking (not shown) commenced Finishing Grading and the seeding of fairways began. Two acres of steep slope were hydroseeded to bunchgrasses. Finish Shaping maintains the integrity of the original shaping work while spreading screened topsoil. A tractor-drawn Viking (not shown) is increasingly used for finishing. |

Seeding of fairways with a Brillion. But greens are planted differently, walking behind a specially-calibrated spreader because Bentgrass seed is very small (about 5 million seeds per pound!) |

Week 10: Seeding fairways nearly complete. The rock wall, forming the edge of No. 1 Tee, nears completion. Meanwhile construction of the last area--the putting green--was proceeding. At the same time, the crew finished stormwater management drain connections to sumps. Planting of trees and shrubs stopped abruptly with a drop in temperature, and the irrigation system was blown out a few days later in preparation for winter. The parking lot was prepped for spring paving. |
