Shadow Ridge Golf Club
Here you can make a score saving decision over breakfast, just admit that you have to lay up on the first tee box and you can save yourself at least 1 stroke. The first hole is a short dog leg left par four, 355 yards from the back tees and only 346 from the men's white tees, but it is an intimidating start none the less.
There is a wide creek flowing across the fairway and a walking bridge spanning it. To clear the bridge and creek you'll need to carry your opening ball 220 yards. If that is beyond you, or in my case if the Advil hasn't kicked in yet, don't worry about it. Lay up short of the creek, that means hitting a ball no more than 165 yards, and you will have a second shot of about 180-190 yards and at least a chance to save par.
The 16th hole probably looks harder than it plays, but still it plays tough enough. At 488 yards many would consider it a short par five, one that the bombers could reach in two. But not in this case. The hole itself is a wide-open dogleg right par five. As long as you don't go too far to the right you can slash your tee shot with any club and with your entire might and not do any serious damage. Then comes your 2nd shot and your first shot over water. A tee ball of 210 yards or longer will give you a good chance to clear the creek running across the fairway with a mid iron and the landing area on the other side is big and wide. From there you will need about 150 yards to get close to but not in to the second creek crossing leaving a wedge shot over the second water crossing and into a well protected green. Oh, and the green is situated just a little right of the bridge you are about to cross.
