BAJA MEXICO GOLF REVIEW

One of our faithful viewers to the BCgolfguide.com was gracious to provide our readers with a mexican style golf holiday in beautiful Cabo San Lucas. Dennis and entourage stayed at the Coral Baja located close to San Jose del Cabo. This area is geared more towards the traveller needing relaxation than excitement.

It seems mexico is starting to become a pricey destination but Don managed to swing a very sweet deal. Since their accommodation was arranged thru a time-share trade the only substantial costs were the flights from Calgary booked almost a year in-advance.

We would probably have golfed at the municipal course in San Jose if we had not taken the time-share tour. This course is ok and you are paying around $40 for 9 holes. I recommend the time-share speech because they pay all your incidental expenses up to that point. With taxi, lunch and golf I felt we got our moneys worth compared to any other racket.

When Sergio guaranteed $40:00 (US) per person to golf at Cabo San Lucas Golf and Country Club instead of $165.00 I jumped at the offer. He also offered to pay for our taxi ride from the airport to our condo, a taxi to the presentation and lunch, I was in heaven.

We settled into your condo and we phoned to confirm our tee time at the Cabo San Lucas Golf Club. Upon arriving at this oasis in the desert we were surprised at meeting a gentleman from Edmonton who was selling time shares as a retirement nest-egg. We went for a tour of the existing junior, one bedroom and two bedroom suites. Awesome! They were unbelievable.

Then a tour of the golf course itself. Awesome! I am not kidding. If I had the many thousands of dollars to buy I would have. We politely sat through his presentation, enjoyed an awesome lunch (on them) then left in a taxi which they paid for. We booked four tee times the following week and enjoyed the best golf since November. I recommend this course without coercion. If you can afford the cost of golf the courses I saw would make your heart palpitate. This course was one of the most reasonable of all in the area. The pro said that the prices will only go up because of demand.

Driving range with unlimited range balls and grass tees as well as a separate area for your short game.

Hole #1 stay right because of extensive water.

Reclaimed water from all the hotels in the area. They pump 1 million gallons/day to keep the fairways and greens as lush as they are.

13th fairway from the rough

Hole #2 green

Tee and fairway of #4

Par 5, 610 yards from the tips. We played the blues-531.

Birdie!
I recommend anyone to visit BAJA. It is a gracious and friendly destination. The locals are very friendly and offer help when needed. Being Canadian is not a disadvantage as there are many Canadians who work and live in Cabo or San Jose.

My family (sans wife) rented ATV quads during the second last day of our holiday. The owner, friendly Ned, was from Ontario and had been in San Jose for the last 12 years and loved it.

A family from Edmonton owned the Liquor Barn, an establishment of great renown. Snorkeling is awesome at certain beaches that provide equipment rentals at a reasonable price.

When leaving BAJA be sure to go to the "duty free" store upstairs in the airport as opposed to the "airport free tax" on the main floor. This is designed to be confusing for the unwary traveller. There is also a store just for Tequila. I highly recommend this as the prices and selection are mouthwatering.
