The Shuswap golf region of British Columbia is typically the one area many avid golfers have not fully explored. The drive is just another hour past Kamloops or from Vernon, another 45 minutes to reach what many say, is the hidden gem of Shuswap golf in British Columbia.
Salmon Arm Golf Club: The highly regarded Salmon Arm Golf Club’s Champions Course has earned its place amongst the British Columbia “Must Play” list. Designed by Les Furber, it offers jaw-dropping views of the Shuswap Mountains with every shot. Unfolding over meticulously manicured terrain, bunkers and waterholes lurk a midst tall fir, cedar and pine trees to offer an impressive test of golf for players of all abilities. Blessedly free of the fairway homes & condos often seen at B.C. Courses, Salmon Arm Golf Club offers mountain golf at its unspoiled best. The 9-hole Heritage Course layout is a unique challenge of Par 3 & Par 4 holes. It is perfect for golfers with varying levels of golf experience & makes an excellent warm-up facility prior to a round on the larger course.
Hyde Mountain GC on Mara Lake: Set in the hills above pristine Mara Lake this summer playground of Shuswap golf country, Hyde Mountain is another achievement of architect Les Furber. It winds its way through thick evergreen forest and across ravines to give golfers equal amounts of beauty and challenge. Be sure to bring your camera, there are vistas to photograph, particularly hole 4 - that has a a 250+ foot drop to the fairway. You will be sure to use every club here at Hyde Mountain, the 2nd Shuswap golf course to arrive for avid golfers.
Shuswap National (formerly Canoe Creek): Shuswap National a Dave Barr design course, who is one of BC's most notable golf professionals on the tour. A links style layout, and well suited for the long hitter. Be sure to have your camera ready here as well as you approach the 3rd hole, and signature one. The water feature will distract you from the correct club selection on this testy par 3 hole. Shuswap golf is simply not complete without a stop here. The fairways were superbly manicured year round!
Talking Rock Resort Golf Course: Talking Rock opened in 2007 to rave reviews. The course is situated on the lake shore of the Little Shuswap. This course is extremely user friendly for all golfers. The front nine is fairly subdued, however as you realize the elevation climbs after hole 10, the views become almost the primary focus. At Talking Rock, you will find a few demanding tee-shots and approach irons, club selection is critical here. Once you plateau, take it all in and enjoy the views, maybe spot a white tailed deer. Mother nature created a beautiful Shuswap golf setting where all the 4 courses have a distinct flavor.
Shuswap Lake Estates Golf Course: The long established Shuswap Lake Estates Golf & Country Club is unique to the Shuswap golf region. The course is apart of a master planned retirement community. Expanded from 9 to 18 holes, Shuswap Lakes has become a drawing card for golfers to escape the city lifestyle and get back to nature. A very walkable Shuswap golf course, measuring 6467 yards. A great course to start your Shuswap golf vacation!
