August 17th, 2000 - Summerland Golf & Country Club
The 20th Annual Summerland Seniors Open Golf Tournament was held on
August 17th at The Summerland Golf Club. This course measured 6,135
yards from the white tee's for us Seniors. The tournament was extremely
well organized. From the moment you arrived at the parking lot where
junior members off loaded your golf bags to the very pleasant
registration Ladies that handled the necessary sign in you felt very
welcome.
Summerland Golf Course is a deceiving golf experience. From the wide
open (flat) front nine, you will find generous fairways with large
greens and a sampling of sand traps and the odd water hazard to test
your skills. Do not be lulled into a state of false security because a
big surprise is in store for you on the back nine. The fairways get
narrower and tree lined as you get into the forest and undulating
contours. As you get closer to home the Trout Creek Canyon is worth a
short stop to look at. This canyon borders the 15th, 17th and the full
length of the 18th fairway. An exciting experience.

Have you ever had one of those days where nothing goes right? Remember, the guy who always had a cloud over his head and it all ways rained? Well, that's me! At Penticton, there was 100 door prizes, I was # 101, ...Yep! no winner. At Kelowna Springs I won a free lube and oil job, in Kelowna...I live in Vernon!!...gave it back to the M/C and told him to draw again. Recently I won at the Summerland Open a free breakfast at the Country Cafe In Summerland....Yep!... guess what ...I live in Vernon! After suggesting that my free breakfast should be auctioned off for one million dollars, ( the profit of course was mine) and as there were no takers.... I donated this great gift to my name sake George Taylor , (no relation, but he has a fabulous last name) That's it for this time around folks. Until the next time....where ever you are....have a happy day!
