Seniors Golf

June 9th, 2000 - 23rd Annual Kelowna Senior Men's Invitational Tournament

The 23rd Annual Kelowna Senior Men's invitational Tournament was held at the Kelowna Golf and Country Club on June 8th & 9th /2k. This event is considered the premium tournament for Senior golfers and is not confined to Zone 11 residents. Contestants come from all over BC and this invitation is jealously guarded by all concerned as evidenced by the same returnee's year after year.

This tournament is hugely successful because the committee running the show does a magnificent job of organizing things. The tournament chairman, Jim Greenlay, and his very able and competent helpers deserve all the credit due. Congratulations to the following people for a good job well done: Shirley Krushen, Murray Joyce, Bill Anderson, John Fenton, Dave Gratton, Lionel Deshamais, Tony Taylor, Bert Evans, Ardie Feist, Marcy Eising, Jim Hope, Craig Lewis, Greg Pidlaski, (CPGA Pro).

The course was in excellent shape and Craig Lewis CGSA Superintendant did a great job Greg Pidlaski performed the starters role with a special greeting that made the golfers feel at home. Thanks Greg.

Kelowna Golf & Country Club

Folks, if you ever get the chance to play this wonderful old (I 920) traditional course, take the opportunity at your earliest convenience. We have many challenging and beautiful courses throughout the Valley but they are the so called "new" type, wide open and scenic. The statement "golf in the classic tradition" accurately describes the pleasures of playing this club. No golfing experience is complete without a visit to Kelowna's favorite golf course. Make it a part of your summer vacation.

During this two day tournament I had the pleasure of playing with the following people: Al Anderson of the Kelowna Golf club, Jim Anderson, from Kelowna Springs, Len Peacock, from Gallagher's Canyon, Mike Nettlefield, and Ray Tait from the same club, and Bob Hicks from the Harvest Golf Club. While the 172 golfers came from various area's, it looked like the Kelowna club members took advantage of home course knowledge as the results indicate.

The overall low Gross winner was Hugh McNeill with a two day score of 144, and the runner up for second place honors went to George Bames with a score of 146. Both are members of the Kelowna Club.

The over all low Net winner was Larry Harmata (131) of the Vernon Golf Club, second place went to Henry McDaniel (131) from the Kelowna Club.

Low Gross winner in the FIRST flight was Bill Perehudoff (147) from the Castlegar Golf Club, followed by second place winner Larry Ford from Shadow Ridge Golf Club.

Low Net winner was George Graff (132) from Gallagher's Canyon and second was taken by Rick Daniels (136) from The Kelowna Club.

Low Gross winner in the SECOND flight was Brian Roche (152) and runner up was Barrie Black (153).

Low Net winner was Erv Snider (132) and runner up was Gary Kosowan (132) from the K.G.C.C. as well.

Low Gross winner of the THIRD flight was Laurie Andrews (161) and runner up was Bud Giesbrecht (162), both are members of K.G.C.C.

Low Net winner was Rudolph Antonio (136) from the Okanagan Golf Club, runner up was Al Anderson (137) from the K.G.C.C.

Low Gross winner in the FOURTH flight was Ron Jacobson (168) and runner up was Howard Hamel (169) both are members of K.G.C.C.

Low Net winner was Bob Bremner (136) from the Shadow Ridge Golf club. Runner up was Mario Koga (136) he is a member of (yep, you guessed it!) K.G.C.C.

That's it for this time around folks, the next Seniors event will be at the Salmon Arm Golf Club on the 23rd of June.

Until next time...where ever you are...have a happy day!
