Seniors Golf

May 6th, 2000 - Seniors Zone II Report

The first Senior's tournament in the Okanagan Valley was held at the Osoyoos Golf and Country Club on Friday,May 5th. This golf course is a 27 hole layout consisting of three, nine hole tracks called the PARK, MEADOWS, and DESSERT. In all Senior tournaments the participants use the white "T" blocks and in the case of this tournament the Park and Meadows course were combined to give the golfer's a challenging distance of just under 6000 yards. The course was in great shape and the two new green's opened this year proved to be a real test for the putting talents of the golfer's.

There were four sections to the tournament. Each section was designated a handicap and each player was placed in the section which was appropriate for his own club handicap.

Overall low gross winner was George Barr (72) from the Shadow Ridge club in Kelowna and the overall low net winner was Lloyd Burgart (70) from the Fairview Mountain course in Oliver.

Terry Graham has resigned as head professional of the Osoyoos club to spend more family time with his wife Gail, who we all know is a playing member of the L.P.G.A.

John Griffiths, is the new General Manager of the course and he tells me that a new club house will be under construction in the fall and be ready for members and the public in the spring of 2001.
