Seniors Golf

September 14th, 2000 - Spallumcheen Golf and Country Club

The Spallumcheen Golf and Country Club, located in Vernon, held their Year 2000 Senior Men's Open on Thursday the 14th of September. The field was well represented by many golfers from throughout the Zone II area. This championship course will keep any golfer entertained and challenged. Some greens are well trapped while others are seemingly benign to your approach shot. The rough is a factor on almost all the holes and the undulating fairways have tree lined area's that you must stay away from if your shot has any wayward ideas. There is water which comes into play on 12 of the 18 fairways. The course has over 60 bunkers that are a severe test, not only for your skill level but also your sanity if you get in them. I can vouch for that as I visited no less than 14 of them! If you can keep your ball on the fairway you should have an enjoyable game. The course played to 6,008 yards from the white tee's for us this day and the weather was the usual Okanagan Sun.

What can we say about the Volunteers who make each Seniors Tournament a success that has not already been said? The Ladies Of the Spallumcheen Golf Club deserve the the Heartfelt thanks from all the golfers that played that day. By your smiling, cheery attitude at that time in the morning you set the day for us. So....a special thank you goes to the following wonderful Ladies Of Spal: Pat Southam, Anne Kelly, Lucille Graves, Carol Ferguson, Marie Trentini, Noreen Payne, Marg Wild, Ruth Adams, (the Duece pot Queen!), Jan Tidball, (say Hi to Jim), Mary Power, Helen Jagow, Anita Rowland, Irene Oizumi, Carol Sawada, Patsy Brooks, (spotter), Dennis Thomas (the computer man) and where would we all be without the help of draw master Ken Sims.

My golfing partners for the day were Don Selin (96) Spallumcheen and Vern Bigelow (92) also from Spallumcheen. The 4th member was my friend from the Kamloops Golf Club, Bill Lee (90).

That's it for this time around folks. Until the next time....where ever you are....have a happy day!
