Hapuna Beach Resort - Big Island
Situated on the sunny Kohala Coast, north of Kona on the Big Island, Hapuna Beach Prince Hotel has defined luxury since its opening in 1994. As the second phase in Rockefeller's creation of Mauna Kea Resort, the hotel property shares 1,839 acres of oceanfront paradise with the legendary Mauna Kea Beach Hotel. Perfectly nestled into the bluffs above the #1-rated Hapuna Beach, the hotel presents a flowing, contemporary Hawaiian style where guests experience the true essence of rejuvenation. A predominant feature of Hapuna is the presence of a series of underground springs. In ancient times, during seasons of heavy rainfall these springs would bubble to the surface creating natural artesian fountains. The resultant streams would provide a source of respite and renewal for travelers along the otherwise dry and barren Kohala Coast. Thus the area was named "Hapuna" or "Spring of Life" in the Hawaiian language.
All guestrooms face Hapuna Beach and offer varying degrees—from Terrace View to Oceanfront. At 600 or 660 square feet depending on bedding, each room features a 5 fixture bathroom, private balcony, double entry doors (one of which is louvered providing the option for a trade-wind-cooled room), wall-mounted flatscreen TV, and the latest high-tech data ports and outlets. Luxurious interiors sport crown moldings, plantation shutters, screen and glass sliders onto balcony, choice of king or queen/queen bedding, Polynesian-inspired accent wall, and palette of colors chosen to reinforce the resort’s orientation to sand, sea and sunset. Rich wood, fine fabrics, and upscale linens complete each guestroom.
Twice as big as a regular guestroom, each of the resort’s 36 one-bedroom Oceanfront Suites offers separate parlor with wet bar and half bath, plus sleeping quarters, vanity area, and full bathroom. All suites are located in Tower Three—just steps from beach and pool.
Although this stand-alone accommodation is central to the resort, it offers an exclusive, residential experience to those guests wishing privacy and luxury. At 8,000 square feet, this shorefront Villa is approached by a gated drive, and offers 4 over-sized bedrooms with en-suite bathrooms, Infinity pool and whirlpool, outdoor BBQ, gourmet kitchen, media room, fitness equipment, and butler. Personal chefs are available upon request.
