Penticton Golf & Country Club

Penticton Golf & Country Club

When you play the Penticton Golf and Country Club course, you are playing through a bit of BC's golf history.  The origins of the club go back to a 9 hole course that shared a fairway with a racetrack, located in the area near the intersection of Railway Avenue and Power Street. This course was entirely built by enthusiastic volunteers and maintained by the players.  The golf club itself was founded in 1922.

Over the years the club grew and the course changed location several times, improving with each move.  In 1961 the Penticton Golf and Country Club opened the first 18 hole course in the B.C. Interior on land south of Eckhardt Avenue between Kings Park and the Okanagan River Channel.  Due to to flood control work on the Okanagan River Channel the present site became available in 1965.  Part of the course was shifted westward and the course became championship-sized for the first time.

Over the long history of this club, the defining factor has always been the enthusiasm of its members and their dedication to the game of golf.

The Penticton Golf and Country Club is an 18-hole course.  We are proud to have one of the best conditioned golf courses in the Okanagan Valley and it offers a variety of challenges for all players.

The fairways are narrow, there is water in play on twelve holes, and well placed bunkers protect the greens. You will need to bring a strong wedge game and a solid putting stroke to score well here.  Positional play from tee to green is another key to a good round.

Shannon Lake Golf Club

Shannon Lake Golf Club

Shannon Lake Golf Club, playing amongst towering pines and moderate elevation changes, is a true test to golfers of all abilities. The signature 8th hole is a 425-yard risk/reward par 4, played alongside beautiful Shannon Lake. One would have to consider Shannon Lake golf course a hidden gem for the Okanagan Valley. Situated in West Kelowna (formally Westbank) the 6,294-yard layout will have you using every golf club in the bag.

The Shannon Lake Golf Club unveiled its new clubhouse in conjunction with the beginning of the 2015 season. Visit Courses Restaurant for a wide array of menu items, a constantly evolving wine list, and local craft brewery selections. Also in store of 2017 are renovated teeing areas on holes #3, #7 and #14.

Be sure to determine the pin location on hole #3. A treacherous tired green with a high demand for a wedge in. If you hit the hill without a good kick forward, be prepared for a putt that can be easily 40 to 50 feet if the pin location is tucked in the top back! You will cross the quite residential road to get to the elevated forth tee. you may notice the flowers, a local resident takes it upon herself to beautify the tee box. Play a high 6 iron, perhaps 5 demanding on your skill and length off the tee. Not a lot of error for margin left or right. The green is relatively flat, par is considered good here. Hole 5 is not long, but your 2nd shot is critical. Suggestions, play a 3 or 4 iron or long hybrid down the middle, do not pull it left, trees and bunkers will hinder your ability to have a shot to the green, which has a stream running along the front. A gentle hill behind the green will allow for some fortunate bounces down to the green.

The back nine at the Shannon Lake golf course provides some neat peek a boo vistas looking down to Okanagan Lake. Hole #12 climbs upwards and if you are daring, Strike a strong 3-wood and you can be green side, but beware of the ridge in the green. Making birdie here is very "do-able" if your approach is well received into the green.

Hole #13 is a short par 5, but requires two well placed shots. Driver off the tee here is a no-no. An easy 3- or 5-wood will suffice, then your second shot up the hill requires easily two extra clubs extra. So, eye it up before you make a club selection. This two tiered green also gives you a chance at birdie, or more often, a bogey. Once you head over to hole #14, you have arrived at the highest point of the Shannon Lake Golf Club. Another easy par 4, assuming you hit it straight down the middle, a mid- to long-iron off the tee is all you need here. Look for turtles in the deep pond to the left of the green.

A day at Shannon Lake Golf Course will be most enjoyable. It is ideal to plan golfing here either on an arrival or departure day should you be traveling the Kelowna - Merritt connector via home to/from the lower mainland. Shannon Lake Golf Club is located just off Highway 97, immediately north of West Kelowna, and only 10 minutes from downtown Kelowna.

Summerland Golf & Country Club

Summerland Golf & Country Club

Summerland golf is situated 15 minutes from Highway 97, southwest of the Town of Summerland on Paradise Flats, this location offers a pristine setting fitting of a championship golf course.  Not only is the setting quiet and free from urban noise, it offers views of the Okanagan Valley and Trout Creek Canyon. Summerland Golf Club is a hidden Okanagan golf gem!

Summerland Golf Course is a Semi-Private golf club owned by its members, but welcomes public play and its green fee program has options to offer varying rates depending on when you play as well as how often. Best to bundle Summerland Golf Club with a BCgolfguide.com Okanagan golf package.

The course at Summerland Golf & Country Club is located on Paradise Flats, and offers quite a contrast in lay out between the front and back nine. The first hole provides the golfer with a wonderful start, the tee being perched some 75 feet about the fairway and offering a great view of the Okanagan Valley in the distance. The front nine is characterized by generous fairways, relatively flat terrain, and a combination of links style as well as tree lined holes, featuring four significant par 4's that are all in the 400 yard plus range.

The back nine moves into a grove of Ponderosa Pines, and features rolling fairways, elevation changes and undulating greens. Five holes parallel the massive Trout Creek Canyon. The 18th Hole at Summerland golf is a great risk reward par five. At just over 500 yards, depending on the tee you play, a good drive will give you the chance to reach the green in two. However you will need to flirt with the corner of Trout Creek Canyon to do so! Accuracy and good putting is required to score well on the back nine.

The Clubhouse at Summerland Golf overlooks the front nine with the Okanagan Valley in the distance. The proximity of the large deck to the 9th green allows spectators to enjoy the trials and tribulations of the golfers playing the hole. The menu offers nice variety, and our staff is prepared to ensure that your needs and wants are well served in a friendly yet professional manner.

Championship Practice Facility - Summerland golf course features a 300+ Yard Practice Facility including a sizable grass tee area, practice bunkers, chipping green and putting green.  Our fully qualified Golf Professional Staff offer a full array of clinics as well as private lessons so that you can get the most out of your golf game.
